I'm thinking about going to one caliber pistol. Right now I have 5 pistols in 4 different calibers. I'm almost positive it's going to be the 9 or 40 I stay with but leaning towards the 9 since the wife shoots the FN I have so much better than other rounds.

I'm not a big fan of the 9mm for if the poop hits the fan but having a couple weapons that all can use the same ammo is a big plus for me. Should I not be worried about the 9 or should I just get her more practice with the 40?

If you decide to keep the 40's, let me know what 9's you have for sale....

9mm is cheaper than the others. With good ammo the 9mm doesn't lose much to the 40 or the 45, but I do think self defense ammo choice is more critical with the 9mm than the others. If your wife is shooting as well, the 9 doesn't recoil as much as the 40 or 45. I don't currently have a 9mm, but I do want another one some day, and I wouldn't feel under gunned with one if it were all I had. I used to shoot clays with a guy that was a medical examiner, so you could say he saw the effect of more than a few gunshot wounds on the body. He said that as far as what round does more damage, the 9,40,and 45 all did about the same amount of damage, you couldn't really tell a difference. Now the 357 Mag was a different story all together, much more internal damage.

Traded my 40s for 9s in the same models just cause I could shoot more for the money; rather practice more with a capable round.
