I'm gonna plant my fall plot when it presents itself.
I'm gonna drill oats, cereal rye, and Austrian winter peas .
I'm wanting to add a couple of clovers in hopes of establishing a long term clover plot in this area using the mix above as a cover crop to bridge the plot til next spring .

So help me pick clovers that with some tlc will last a few yrs w proper maintenance

Tellico is the master of perennial clover plots, im sure he will give the best advice.

From what I've heard, its hard to beat Durana and White Ladino.

I'd probably hedge my bets and add an annual with them like crimson, Balansa, or Red... but I never do anything simple, I want as many species in my fall blend as possible.

Im sure you know, but once the perennial clover gets established, you should mow it high periodically and spray with Clethodim and 24DB to reduce competition.
 
Man I know it's considered blasphemous to use a big brand seed but I've planted Whitetail Institute and Pennington clover trio with great success . I've got a killer clover plot about 3 yrs old with very little spraying but consistent mowing. It's simpler sometimes just to get it and sling it than overthinking it. I'll try to find some pics . It's about 4 acres.
 
Another vote for durana…I've gotten as many as 7 years out of a stand if maintained properly. Drought tolerant, works well in our soils, and competes really well just make sure your pH ok. Doesn't have to be perfectly neutral but lime will help it get a jumpstart.

I am going to try 2 acres of Q Red Clover this year. I am really interested it's 24D tolerance.

You're way over paying for seed if that the case.
 
Mixture of Crimson/Arrowleaf/Durana is my go to blend and is as close to a year round food source that I've found.

Have tried just about every concoction you could think of over the past 20+ years and that one just works best for me. Going to give the new Q Red a try this year as have three plots that I'm re-doing after 7 years.

Clethodim, 24DB & Basagran is herbicides we use so can't mix chicory as it's a broadleaf.
 
Our mix came from @tellico4x4 . Crimson/arrowleaf/ladino is the mixture that works well for us. Last 2 years I've had to get arrowleaf from knoxville because Nashville SUCKS for seeds!

I'm going to add the Q Red to my blend & see how it does. Really interested to see if the early growth is what they are claiming.

Made the switch from Advantage Ladino to Durana in my blend a couple years ago. Costs more, but definitely does better in hot dry weather.
