Help!! Large point of impact change!!

I was driving tacks with my 336W Marlin 30 30 with the Leverevolution 160 grain at 100 yards today. I wanted to see what my Marlin liked so I tried out Remington Core Lokts 170 grain and it dropped the point of impact low on the paper, then switched to the Remington 150 grain and I was off paper. In between every six shots I ran my Boresnake through, but didn't change anything else. Could a simple change in brand and grain bullet cause such a drastic difference in point of impact. I ran out of the Leverevolution, so I couldn't switch back to confirm this. Please help, cause I hope the Boresnake didn't damage my rifle.

The bullets and powder are both unique in the Leverevolution. 'Course you didn't specify the size of paper or amount of drop, but a change of impact is certainly expected.

I was 2-3 inches high of bulls eye with the Leverevolution on a shoot n see target, then dropped to 4" low of bullseye with 170 grain Rem and off paper with the 150 grain Rem. Pretty crazy!

if it grouped the Hornady stuff in 2 inches I would not look any farther,,

You can expect piont of impact variation when changing ammo. Too late now Switching back and forth would have been better at at 50 yards. I have shot Remingtons out of my 336 for around 20 years now. It shoots 3 inch and under groups at 100 yards any day of the week.The bore snake should not have hurt any thing. Were you using a bench rest ?? Did you let the barrel cool off between groups. A HOT barrel can make a big difference,

The barrel was hot and I considered that as a possiblilty, but there was a 30 second interval from the last LE shot and the first group of 170 grain Rem. There was an instant drop in the point of impact. I will go back out tommorrow and confirm.

I always carry a 22 along to practice with between groups. 30 seconds is nowhere near long enough to cool off.I feel of the barrel to tell not sure in minites. Maybe 10 minites or more if you're shooting alot.

Is your scope mounted good and tight ?? Did you use loctite ??

You need to buy more LE to confirm but I bet that is the case. LE should be a hotter round.

Scope is mounted good and tight. I think a hot barrel and changing to a different grain bullet and brand caused such a variance.

The 336 I have in 35 Remington drops several inches low at 100 yards with Remington ammo as compared with the Hornady LeverEvolution stuff. I don't remember exactly but it was at least 4 inches or so. You're probably fine.

Confirmed. I was once again shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards with the LE ammo today. My gun loves that ammo.
