Help ID Trout

Okay so Ive been fishing the Caney. Caught 10 and they all looked just like this and about this size. These dont look like the stocker rainbows Im used to catching at home so I assumed they were browns. They have orange spots but it did seem like you could see some pink in them. I saw people catching and keeping them so then I thought maybe they are rainbows, since the Caney regs said only 1 brown over 24" allowed and these were no where near 24" and looked just like what I was catching. All I had was the cell phone so maybe the picture isnt the best but hope you can tell. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Brown.

When I first started trout fishing I saw people keeping them too, but wasn't sure enough to keep any myself. Spots don't go into the tail and the little orange spots say brown. I've seen the pink in them too, so I assume people keeping them are either misidentifying them or just don't care.

Thanks guys. I bet I saw 15 or more of them get hauled out of there today so it really got me to doubting myself. I guess all those folks just didnt know or didnt care one.

I've often wundered if TWRA dont turn a blind eye to some trout fish'n offences, since trout aint exactly a hardy fish they knowingly let people walk with them because even if released they know thers a good chance of it dieing anyway.

Just a thought.

That's a brown all day long. It's one thing to misidentify a fish (done it myself) but i wonder if folks exceeded their 7 fish limit?

It has always amazed me how crazy some people go over trout. Some go more than the extra mile to violate when trout are involved.

The clinch is just as bad, I saw one guy fishing from the bank while I was wading sitting on a bucket, when I walked by I asked if done any good and if there wasn't 50 there was none and every one probally 5-8" really teed me off!so yhea I called twra they was there the next 3 days handing out fines but really people why?

The Caney has a 5 fish daily limit. Each species (rainbow, brook & brown) have length regs associated with them.

From the regs...

Caney Fork River (Center Hill Dam to Cumberland River, including tributaries)

Total daily creel of all trout (rainbow, brown and brook) in combination is 5 fish

Rainbow Trout: 5 per day, 14�20 inch protected length range, only one fish over 20 inches may be harvested

Brook Trout: 5 per day, 14�20 inch protected length range, only one fish over 20 inches may be harvested

Brown Trout: 1 per day, 24 inch minimum length limit

Are you sure its not a pale Brook? The bottom fins have white edges and the spots have halos. I would say brown also but those features aren't associated with a Brown.
