Well I have been eyeballing a new area to go and prospect in hopes that I could begin to put together some backlog on locations I intend to hunt artifacts this winter with my son. This morning I had about 15 minutes so I decided to take a quick peak at the new spot. Well I walked around for about 12 minutes drinking my coffee and looking for any signs of encouragement to little avail. As I finished my Joe I decided to head back to the truck as I glanced over the last small section of open ground low and behold, a base, and a nice one…as I reached down and flipped it over I was greeted by the Kings lyrics loud and clear lol. In all seriousness there was zero sign found prior to this. I'm going to go back and look again at some point for sure but how often do y'all find a one off artifact and nothing else around it?

Nice, yep go back this winter after several rains and check it again. Very unlikely that is the only artifact there.

To answer your question, it is exceptionally rare for me to find a one off. I did find a half of a bannerstone once in a spot that hadn't produced anything for us for roughly over 20 years. We had hunted it many, many times over those years with nothing. Prior to me finding that bannerstone the only other item found in that field was a complete bannerstone by my friends dad. Here is my half one.


edit: the one my friends dad found was made of the exact same material. Rose quartz.
