I actually would like for him to make it one more season. I would love to see a little more mass and tine length. This buck has that potential I think. I'm afraid the neighbors will punch a tag on him if they get the chance im sure.
I really dont like hunting in this early heat but I may give it a go.
A few more up and comers this morning. This is our typical bucks. They get wide and short tined.

That's the difference between killing a big buck and a giant buck. Always a risk in letting one go another season but it's what you have to do if you want to kill bucks in their prime. It's not for everybody and it gets hard to justify after eating tag soup a few years in a row, but when it does pay off it's awesome like nothing else.

If you are wanting mass and dont care about tag soup, then you should pass everything until 5.5.

I get it! It's truly hard for me to say im there all the time but I have so far on this particular farm. Ive taken 1 4.5 yo off of it so far in 4 years and I hope all the efforts that have been put in to it have benefited what im seeing on camera and from the stand now as far as age class. Only time will tell.

I just don't think there is any way I could pass him up. He's bigger than anything I've ever shot. Saying that, I just purchased my own piece of property this past summer, so I'm wanting to start really managing my deer.

That's a great buck and anyone would be proud to kill him. Every hunter must decide to shoot or pass and whether they want a reward now or possibly a greater reward in the future. You could hunt your entire life and never kill a great buck! If you are ok with that, then just keep on passing them up. I know a few hunters at the sunset of their hunting careers who always talk about that one or two that got away. In my opinion, when a good buck is presented to you, you need to kill that buck. When you get to the point where you never need to kill another whitetail, then pass them all until that singular buck comes your way. Don't worry about killing a bunch of those; one will be enough.
He's a great buck now. Good luck with your decision, IF you get a chance on him.

Yes sir! Dont disagree with anything said here. I have some of those stories now. Ive had way more thats got away but I had the opportunity and the stories to share with family and friends that will last a lifetime. Some of our other properties there's no way I would let this deer walk in TN but on this one i want to see what happens.

Appreciate it. I've already got one that I had on camera last year. I think he's a 3 year old. He gets a pass this year. I want to see what he becomes next year.
