I know this has been discussed before many times, along with other things like wound survival.

I came across a thread on FB the other day, of a buck killed that had survived a poor headshot or a shot that went awry. There were other photos but these two summarize them all…. Things these animals can survive with.

I shot an arrow at a broadside buck once and he dropped in his tracks and flopped all over the place. When I got to him, the arrow had hit him in the base of the skull from behind. He was DRT. I was aiming at his chest. All I could figure is that either he dropped and turned to get away before the arrow arrived, I made a bad shot, or the combination of the two. Point being, it can happen by pure accident. Throw a nice set of antlers into the mix and it increases the possibility of something going wrong. I hope that was the case here.
