Good luck. I hope your not from what's considered east Tn or you will get accused of poaching by all the locals in that part of the state if they find a dead deer in the next few months lol. I hope u come back with a truck load.

Are the deer moving good?

I have seen 1 little doe did not want one that bad so let it go 3 other guys with me and they have seen 1 coyote thats it really slow not even seeing deer at night crossing in front of us .we have never struggled this bad in all the years we have been coming down here. Does it get hunted to death early in muzzle and gun and also does the 3 a day here put that much impact on this deer herd
Pressured deer on public land are difficult to hunt, especially late in the season.
I think the three doe/day limit helps if anything. Even with the liberal doe limits there are still twice as many buck as does killed. I think some trips are better than others. And I think you and I have a similar handicap as we don't have the hunting and scouting opportunities others might.
I think either one of us depend on luck-of-the-draw as a single week or weekend isn't enough to say anything for sure as there are so many variables to evaluate for such a small sample. I've leaned not to over analyze anything based on those types of experiences. All of my bad hunting experiences have improved fairly quickly and all of my really great experience just as quickly returned to normal.

Does the 3 doe a day impact the herd? Absolutely, but Natchez Trace isn't exactly the best habitat so I personally feel that less deer is better. There could be more deer out there and you would see more as there would be more competition and need to move in daylight for food, but I personally enjoy a healthy herd more so than an easily hunted herd. At the same time I'm sure the habitat could support more than what is out there, but I'm not a wildlife biologist so I have no idea how you would have to regulate the harvest to find that happy medium. Of course, realistically I don't think it could be done with regulation.. Just like on private land it still requires hunter education. Being public land that is highly pressured you will never be able to have all of the hunters on the same page so those hunting the land have to take it for what it is.

I would love to see a management plan at Natchez Trace that encouraged more young bucks to make it past 1.5 years.
Hasn't it been done in the past?
