Haz-Mat charge?

I've never ordered powder on line before, so could someone tell me what the haz mat charge would likely be? A guy here at work told me upwards of $75, and I said surely not, no one in their right mind would buy a bottle or two and pay such an outrageous fee. ?

It was 27.50 last time I checked. I am pretty sure it is a flat fee too... because most guys who buy powder online buy LARGE quantities.. doesn't really make since to buy a pound ya know?

seems like i paid under $30 bucks . I ordered primers powder and bullets from powder valley last year.

The charge is 25 or 27 bucks and is a mandated cost to the shipper by the DOT. I don;t know how much, if any, UPS gets to keep. It is a tax in my opinion. I bought powder and primers for years without paying this extortion by the government. Did you know Fedex Ground won't handle Haz-Mat shipments so UPS is the keeper of the only keys.

Handloaders typically make a yearly purchase plus a cushion. You can buy up to 50 pounds IIRC total shipment of powder and primers. And that weight is also mandated.

And of course, once the fearless emperor started in on AWB knowledgeable guys got online and ordered and ordered and back-ordered and those are a prime cause of the powder shortage. I stocked up earlier or I woulda been among them.

This is not a rant because I'm only starting to get wound up on this topic. I believe an executive order directing the DOT to raise Haz-Mat fees would be a real possibility if the resident idiot of 1600 had his way.

Several of us shooters at work go in togehter typically with Powder Valley orders to spread the HazMat charge so that it becomes insignificant. You really can't afford to buy powder in 1lb cans mail-order. If you are trying out a new powder get it locally in a 1lb can. If it works out go for the big cans mail-order.
