had a bolt recall on the 700? I have a guy wanting to trade me a 700 7 mag it is synthetic blued but has a stainless bolt? he says it was a recall replacement

Not that I'm aware of. Even if it was a warranty replacement, it seems odd that it would be replaced with a stainless one.

Not that I'm aware of. If they did I highly doubt they would have replaced it with a stainless one. Easiest way to find out for sure would be to get the serial number off of it and call Remington and have them verify any recall work that may have been done to it.

I would want to have the serial number of that rifle validated with a LEO to insure it has not been reported as stolen/lost.

Removing the bolt from a rifle is supposed to be a guarantee the rifle won't be stolen since it obviously will not shoot.

I'm a Remington fan and have never heard of a bolt recall. If the bolt was replaced by Remington it should have matching serial # engraved on the bolt[last four digits] as on the rifle itself. From what I have heard bolts are not "supposed" to be interchangeable.

Something's not right. If you did take it on trade, at the very least take it to a qualified gunsmith to have it checked out to see if that bolt will work properly in that gun.

ive not traded yet gonna get the serial number and see if the work has been done or not, I believe I smell a rat though, don't want to pull the trigger and the bolt bust my noggin

Absolutely. I didn't pay for the inspection on the last house I bought.

I had to have a bolt replaced on a Remington and had to send the hold gun to the factory. Their repair place in Paducah Ky. sent it to the factory. It has to match the rifle and will have the same ser. # as the rifle.

if the headspace checks out from the bolt to datum line it will be fine,,I would like a short action magnum bolt face bolt to have a 6.5 Gap 4S barrel fitted to my tactical rifle if anybody has one they want to part with,,

it does sound like the bolt has been replaced at some time in its past. this could have been done for many different reasons . rem factory rifle shop could have done or a gunsmith or an older owner sometime in the past rem or a gun smith i would think that they got the head space right just somebody trying to save a cpl bucks and doing it themselves might be a little iffy. is the bolt that is in it now stainless ? or is it just in the white and has not been blued ?
