I have a gift card for bass pro shop and was going to use it on turkey calls.I thought woodhaven would be the best bet,any comments on woodhaven would be great.

What type of calls? Woodhaven calls are so expensive. The new MAD Aluminator is a great sounding call. I opened it last time I was at Bass Pro and was really impressed with the sound. I'd get that call before a Woodhaven and it's half the price.

I used a Copperhead on several dead birds some years ago, but as others note there are better calls for the money in my opinion. None currently in my vest and the likelihood of buying in the future is low.

Thanks but I got a lot of differnt calls and have killed Turkey with most of them and they are all cheap calls but sense I got a gift card and it wasn't going to cost me nothing ,I thought I would get a little better call.

They changed the red wasp a few years ago and it's no longer my fav to use. More stiff now and harder to blow

custom is prob a stretch these days really and they lost my business pretty much when they decided a mouth call should cost $14 which is crazy IMO

I don't understand the red wasp following. I think it's average or a little better.

I started using Woodhaven about 15 years ago, when I would stop at a store near the Talladega National Forest to hunt. They were great calls then. I just don't like them anymore, plus they are expensive. Whenever they got popular is when their quality went down.
Also went through two aluminum calls in a season, they kept coming up glued. They replaced them for free, but I just quit using them. Thier crow call sounds good, but I had the same issue with it tearing up too easy as well.
Still good guys and good turkey calls, I have just moved my allegiances elsewhere.

BTW I still use their real cherry box, sounds really good.

Their red wasp 3-4 years ago was a great call. I don't know if they switched tape or latex but it's not what it once was for sure

Yea REN, I've used the red wasp in the old days, and it was decent, but not spectacular in my opinion.

I'm with callemquack, the copperhead and copperhead 2 where two of my favorites. Until they got real popular....

Over priced sub par calls IMO, plus the owner of the company is a huge prick. I was 100% woodhaven for years and used to go see Mike when he was making calls in his garage and hand delivering them to local shops. His head got big, price tag bigger, and quality went to poop.

As others have said there's 10x better calls for much less $$$.

It's a shame they went to trash, but it happens sometimes.

The MAD call StringMusic named is an outstanding call. Legacy mouth calls are also good and can be bought at Bass Pro

There are so many great options now for so much less money (houndstooth, Rush, gooserbait, halloran, legacy, tom teaser just to name a few l mouth call wise) that I will never buy another woodhaven call again. Just stupid how fast and expensive they got all the sudden all while quality and sound went down hill along the way

I've run their pot calls a couple of times in stores. they are ok. Over priced IMO. I bought one of their one piece strikers last year after season, for like $14.99 on clearance. I saw the same striker the other day for $34.99... For a striker. You can get hand turned custom strikers for $15. Halloran has a 3 piece set for $40.

Like others have said, you can get better calls for much less. Now the BPS gift card can't be used at custom calls, but there are just as good or better options off the shelf at BPS that you can find.

Oh I agree for sure. What threw me off of them for good pretty much is that carbon crystal that's 200 dollars. They went up on everything I have two of their pot calls that's I've had for years. Plenty of better calls on the market for way cheaper now days. As Far as mouth calls go I like hooks and holloran.

switched to the red wasp 2 years ago.....just bought a wasp next pack with the red, black and original wasp in it....my favorite call is red wasp but the black wasp sounds and feels good to me.

Thanks to everyone who replyed to my post.I went a head and order 4 mouth calls and I really like the sound of the red wasp.the new green hornet sounds good to,little hard to blow but I like them that way but probably not for a beginner. If you like the red wasp you would probably like the green hornet.I know they are cheaper calls and probably just as good but I have own primos,h.s.strut,night and hale, flex tone all of the cheap calls and have killed a lot of Turkeys with them just wanted somethig new and I wasn't going to have to paid for it.

They changed the red wasp last year. I think the thickness of the latex was different. It wasn't anywhere as good for me as the older ones.

I called them and they explained it to me, but can't remember which it was. Something about they had no control over it when they ordered. They said they still had some of the old ones, and would send me one, but at $15 for the call, and another $8-10 for shipping, I said no thanks!

When it comes to mouth calls get whatever you can blow and the cheapest ones you can find. Unlike pot calls they will only last a few years anyways. I do recommend if you find one you really like buy 3-4 of them to keep for later. I lose a few every year putting them on my lap and they getting up to go after a bird and forgot to grab it when it fell.

I almost always just used mouth calls,I have had so much success with them I have a hard time useing anything else and I do think they are some that are better than others. When I get a good one I will stick with it and my last one is about worn out and I am trying to replace it.I think mouth calls have gone down in guailty lately but that's just my opinon. If I stop calling them in with mouth calls then I will try one of my other calls.Lol and I have a bunch of mouth calls some of them I have not used much.

I've used red wasp past 2 years and just bought the wasp nest 3 pack the black wasp is just as good as the red. Best call I've used and I don't plan on changing I did by the crystal mistress but I haven't figured out how to use a slate call

i had a buddy buy that pack last year and agree the black wasp was actually a nice call. again the $14 for a mouth call is what killed it for me but the black wasp sounds a lot like the old red wasp to me
