Well today I took the bicycle and my smallest Ugly Stik and headed to two different spots and waded a distance downstream at each spot.

Fishing was pretty good. Caught a few bass, none over a pound, which is average for the harpeth. Every now and then a 2 or 3 pounder shows up, and once in a good while a 4 or 5 pounder. Today was average. But still very enjoyable.

Caught a few smallmouth, a couple largemouth, several rock bass, a ton of longear sunfish, a few bluegills, and finished up with an nice 1 lb spotted bass.

The longear sunfish are bedding all over the place right now. All I needed was a white/chart Trout Magnet and the fish tore it up. I didn't count how many I caught, but it was a lot of fun for just a bunch of 5 inch fish.

Picked up this crawfish on the way out just long enough to take a pic. Would have made a good bait.

Thanks again Bowriter for sending the reels. The Shimano worked well today, just might need to add a bit of oil, but it's a very nice reel.

All caught using plastic lizards and crawfish, and a trout magnet.

So they get brighter colored for the spawn? Didn't know that but I can see it, they are super colorful now. And super aggressive if you aren't standing 5 feet away from their beds.

Tree Tramp is right, rock bass. There are a lot of them in the harpeth. They hit hard but don't fight hard in my experience, but fun to catch and have saved me from being skunked in the past.

Outstanding strike and then that's it! The strike then maybe one two foot run and then slide in on their sides. lol

so it's not just me? I would have a great hit and think it was a regular black bass, but then it would just slide through the water with its mouth open as I reeled it in. They all seem to do that.
 
What kind of fish is that in the pic that's third from the top? Rock Bass? Spotted Bass?

Nevermind, I read the entire thread AFTER posting this. :D

Looks like a good time on the water. I love catching different species of fish on a fishing outing, it makes things interesting.
