Dont have a long history with this guy but wow is he impressive. He was on backyard cell cam all night chasing a doe and this morning walked out at 70 yards from house. Truly a beautiful animal. Im confident he isnt any older than 4.5. Ask my son(15) if he wanted to shoot him and he said he thought he looked young. So we watched him until he chased his doe off. In the video he stared at my archery target for awhile, like he was guarding his doe from him.

To each his on way but I would have pulled the trigger more than once if needed to put him on the ground and in my freezer.
That's a very good deer young or old, not poking at you for not shooting him , i was just raised different we hunted for sport but also for meat to put on the table.

We have plenty does and a 3 doe a day limit. I feel the freezer with does when the weather gets cold
I have passed a few 4.5 year olds over the years, but not so sure I could that one, but then too, I only have a 55 acre farm with a lot of pressure on all sides.

I dont like shooting deer with rifles anymore. I want to kill both my deer with bow . With a bow it would have been harder but there are better deer here and i only have one tag left. But age is what gets me going more than rack.

No doubt that makes a difference. The farm where i live is about 180 acres but farm where tank is is 28 acres. And tank has lived for 7.5 yrs

You must have really good neighbors on that 28 acre farm. There are a couple big farms, but also several small farms around us where someone is hunting them. Cool you are able to get deer to that age.
Its just very rough land surrounding it . We create an undisturbed oasis and they cross through it
He would have took a ride with me in the back of my pickup ....very nice buck brother.
These mid TN prices I see are insane. Surely they have some wiggle room built in.

This is a unique place where deer can get some age. We have seevral more mature deer on cam so that certainly makes it easier to pass. Age is the main criteria we use, not antler sizeLow key flex: even my young child won't shoot a buck like this that most of you will hunt your whole lives and never kill.
You are very fortunate to have such a place. I would probably flex too.

I tried to hunt him this afternoon but the wind had too much east in it for bow range so i climbed down and slid out. I need a overcast or drizzly afternoon and no east wind. East wind seems to kill me everywhere i go.

I think a lot more deer will live than most people believe. I think we often rationalize shooting a deer because we think the neighbor would shoot it and more importantly they would get the opportunity to shoot it. And no doubt it does happen. I just dont want the fear of someone else killing a deer make me lower my standards and shoot a deer that i dont really want to shoot.
The bigger risk i have found is them living through the season perfectly unscathed and losing them before the next season. And where i live, they aint gonna get hit on the rd. Our best buck, was with the buck i pictured above on july 9th, and never saw again

Yes its gotten high but is a solid investment as the value will catch up with it. He grew up with us talking about age structure and gets to see lots of deer out if his window daily so i think that helps. Turkey hunting , basketball and fishing is his passions. Deer hunting is just a side interest. He loves doe management though
