Hey folks, new to the forum, just thought i'd check in and give a story. First off i'd like to say Congratulations to all the youth hunters this past weekend! Makes me happy to see young ones out in the woods! I can't wait to take my 3 month old out for his first hunt!
So, I haven't killed a deer in about 5 years, hence the title of the thread. This is due to Uncle Sam taking up all of my free time and sticking me in California for too long! But, the wife and I just settled in east TN and we love it except for there apparently aren't many pesky whitetails running around. I am on my second year back to hunting with my old bow from high school(still works, aint the type to try to fix something that aint broke). The problem is that all the areas around me to hunt are mountains and unfortunately my knees just can't handle much of that anymore :( I have seen a total of 4 deer this year and a ton of turkeys (killed a few of those already in spring), but haven't had a shot yet at a deer. I am learning to be a better hunter because the woods around me have decided I need the experience. The lessons are tougher in the hills. I have even put in a couple micro food plots that haven't attracted anything yet this year, but maybe later in the season once the acorns are all gobbled up...
I hope to stick and arrow through one this year and get some meat in the freezer for the family. I have killed a bunch of pigs and deer and a few nice bucks as well, (some gun, mostly archery), but that was in Georgia and back in high school. Nowadays with the way things are here I would be incredibly proud to shoot a nanny and probably parade it around for all to see as well! I hope to find a good lease or maybe some farm property to move to by next season so I can get out on some flatter land with more deer. Trying to stay in TN as I do have my lifetime hunting permit (for disabled vet's it's only $10!)
