Well, this is a little late, but just now got the chance to post my 10 year old daughter with her doe she took late Sunday evening. Her smile says it all. We started Sat. morning hunting a plot I have on my farm, and seen deer all morning, but none I felt comfortable about letting her take a shot. Most tried to come into the plot from the south, and would wind us before entering the field. Same deal Sat. evening. I have been getting tons of daylite pics in this plot, and felt it was just a matter of time matter of time, but didnt happen. We decided to hold out and try it again Sun. morning, seeing several that where way to far. We packed up and headed home at dinner. We had been home for several hours and she asked me, Dad, you think we could give it one last shot. I said sure, and we loaded up and headed back to the farm. We eased into the shooting house, and it started out slow again. As the evening slowly passed with no deer, I was beginning to think it was over. As we sat whispering about the past hunts, I happened to look out the window, and a big doe came out into the beans at about 75 yds. I eased the 243 into place, and told her to take her time, and do as we had practiced so many times at the range. The 243 barked, and I knew she had a good hit, as the deer ran back into the thicket.
She was so excited, and was shakeing badley. We slipped down, walked to the last spot we seen her, and I spotted her laying about 40 yds in the woods. I let her walk in first, and told her to look for blood, or look for the deer. After a few steps she spotted her deer, and then she took off running. The celebration began. Ive hunted for 40 years, have taken some good deer, but this meant more to me than all those put together. Got me a hunting buddy!
