Good buddy gave me a handi in 7-08 a couple years ago.
Couldn't get it to group and was about to give it away.

Found the Handi accurizing thread on Greybeards site and figured I would do a little gun smith work.

Sanded out the fore grip to relieve the pressure on the barrel, then I "floated" the grip by using a 5/16" rubber washer under the barrel lug. $1.04

Switched powders to RL 15 and tried a 154gr SST. That was the ticket. Got 1" groups at 100' yds.

Saturday evening I smacked a doe @ 175-200yds right on the button. Had just sat down on a log looking into a swamp when I saw a cypress knee that looked like a deer butt. Studied with the binos and a head and ears popped up. Propped my elbow on my knee to steady my aim and waited for a broadside. Slipped one through the shoulder exactly where I aimed.

Kinda proud of that shot. 200ish is a long distance for me from a seated position and no rest. I was really excited that my "POS throw away" rifle has redeemed itself.

Congrats

If you haven't tried any might want to look at "TAC" down the road.

This is one of the best "feel good" threads I've read this year. I'm genuinely happy for you.

I love tinkering with loads and rifles. Putting groups on paper is one thing, but doing it in the field is where it really counts.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Im satisfied with the RL 15 at this point.

May try and tweak the load .5 gr or so and see if I can tighten it up any later.

The SST left a quarter size exit wound and the deer only ran about 30-35yds, but I couldn't find a blood trail. Might have been the angle and the location of the exit. Have to shoot a few more and see how they perform.
