Had a scare on my private land in Todd Co, KY last year. Ran into another guy with permission and I could tell he didn't like I was there one bit. Didn't matter it was youth season and my boys were the ones hunting. He attempted to put a stop to it and I was worried because I wasn't able to get ahold of the land owner due to a phone number change. Never know how these things can go so for months I was sweating it but eventually I did run into of him. He reassured me I have solid permission and was even told don't worry bout it whatsoever. If it comes down to it I will be the only one with permission. This land has been real real good to me for the past few years. Talk about a big sigh of relief.

Don't know KY regs on permission, but would get written permission and carry it on me if it were me along with the landowners current phone#. Make a copy and keep on you with your license.

Absolutely...our landowner requires us to sign a new permission card each year even though we've been lease members for at least 6 years.

It's always a problem with a landowner gives hunting rights to several people who don't about each other. Very frustrating. You think you have exclusive rights to the land then find out somebody else is hunting it. Makes it very difficult because you never know where or when they are when you are walking to your stand in the dark some morning. Did this same landowner give permission to both of you or is some other family member giving out permission also?

True this is frustrating.

I used to hunt a farm in Lebanon and the landowner gave another guy permission. The landowner made it a point to exchange phone #s with the other hunter so we could coordinate. Went smoothly.

Frustrating for sure. Was given verbal permission on a farm not far from here and the owner insisted we hunt it, but he had too many other people on it and he would not give written permission so we declined. Can get dangerous on a property when you don't know who is supposed to be there or where they might be. Never know what kind of mindset that other party might have. Interestingly he came to me about a nice stand that was on his property just before he had it logged, he did not know who it belonged to and could not get anyone to claim it.

Written sole exclusive permission can only be given to one party/person, thus the "sole" wording. If a landowner is giving "sole" rights to more than one person, that could turn into a major headache.

The person giving permission is the "inheritors" if that is the correct term. Currently the grandfather owns it but it is known in the family that the granddaughter and her husband will become the new owners upon the old man passing. I did not ask who gave permission to the other hunter. Honestly I'm not trying to run him off. I was on after he was so I am not trying to steal it out from under him but what was told me is if he feels he can't share then he would have to find some place else to hunt and then sole permission would be mine. I will be sure to type up a permission slip and have my friend sign.

Just curious, but what did he say that made you think he would try to get you off the land?

pass-thru it wasn't what he said but the way he approached me while hunting with the kids. Acted all gruff and dismayed. Then soon as he's walking away started banging buttons on his phone. Maybe I am jumping to conclusions but looked to me like he didn't want me there. hehe

I've hunted this one farm for years for coyotes. One day my son and I were walking to our stand and I hear a horn just BLARING! His sister didn't know I had permission to be there and she was honking the horn in my car. :) I went back and told her that George and I have been friends for over 20 years and I had permission to be there. You should have seen the color draining from her face. She was clearly upset that she didn't know that George let me hunt there. After she calmed down, she apologized and it was all good.

Happened to me in KS too. I had permission from the landowner, but he didn't tell the guy that leased the farmland. The guy that farmed the place was mad as a hornet, but then calmed down once he found out. The property is leased by some deer hunters, but they care less about the guys like me that hunt turkeys there during the spring. Now we do a quasi-turkey lease with the farmer and give him a couple hundred dollars per year to hunt there. He loves us now :)
