Wear them harnesses. Went to lease to make sure stands was still up and check cameras Wednesday all was good. Got to the millennium lock on this morning and it was laying on the ground (broken chain). I am just glad it broke before I got in it or stepping into the stand. Also chain did break it wasnt cut they was no bolt cutter marks.

very lucky it broke when you were not in it. Even with a harness on it would put you in bad spot. If I hunt out of a stand (mostly ground blinds these days) it is a ladder stand and I really don't know that I could get back in my stand if I had to. The way I look at it hanging there for a little bit until someone can come help me is better than hitting the ground.

Yes it is a good thing it broke when it did. I have a lifeline on all my lock on so I am hooked in once my foot leaves the ground. Either was it would have shook me up pretty good and my bad back would not enjoyed it.

I can see the tree growing around the chain, but really can't see it breaking it. I have stands, locons, that have been grown around by trees they have been on for years. Maybe the weld rusted and broke?

That's some scary stuff right there. Glad it broke when it did and not while you were in it.
I use a lifeline as well now. Didn't always use one until I almost fell climbing up a couple of years ago.
I also use a couple of ratchet straps [I replace them every year] plus the chain for peace of mind.

Re: Had a scare this morning

I always add a ratchet strap to anything. Even if it comes with 2 straps to start with. Wow, that is scary. I have used that exact set up and chain before.

That is scary and odd. Chains don't normally just break.
They do with the severe storms we had this spring. I had a ladderstand I thought squirrels had chewed the strap in two on. When I pulled it down the big hook on the strap was snapped in two pieces. Never thought that would be possible.

Re: Had a scare this morning

Why would anybody in this day and age climb w/o a harness is beyond me..... technology has made things very clear unless u are a brick short

Re: Had a scare this morning

Man that's scary. I'm guessing you don't feel like someone sneaked in and hunted out of it but was smart enough to have a harness on? Glad it didn't end bad for you.
