Sorry, hit enter accidentally. In past posts, the point has been made that the best time for Hack and Squirt is November. I completed some of what I wanted to do in November but still have more I wanted to complete. I called BASF and they tell me it is O.K. to complete up through February as long as it is completed in above freezing temps. I was pondering working on it Wednesday afternoon (48 degrees high) and the low Thursday morning is 24. The putlook past Thursday looks like even lows are above freezing.

For those that have done hack and squirt, have you done it before this time of year? Did it work? Would love to hear input from those with experience doing this. Am I wasting my time and money?

I prefer September and early October, when water transport in the trees is still fairly active, and starting to go down into the roots more than up into the leaves.

Agree. Most of the hardwood control treatments we have done are from late August through early October. August/early September is typically best on foliar applications, with "hack-and-squirt" being accomplished a little later.

My one major concern with Arsenal is potential root transfer to adjoining trees. I don't use it for trees with a close neighboring "valuable" tree. I use Roundup (glyphosate) in those situations.

Good point BSK. I tested this last year on a hackberry beside a medium size red oak. Trees were roughly 10 ft apart. Killed both trees. The BASF guy told me to use a more diluted mixture for this situation but I am skeptical. What is your roundup mixture you use? Thanks.

I go hardcore. I use a 50/50 mixture of glyphosate concentrate and water. Two squirts from a Windex bottle per hack.
