It will depend on who you talk to, there was a thread on here @ 2 wks ago asking the same question. The higher percentage of the group spoke favorably of the H&R handi rifles, I personally have had great results from my 12 ga. slug gun. Very accurate.

I've got a youth model in .223. I really like it, especially the short overall length, but for the kids it didn't really work out.

The scope bases for it only go so low and then only barely clear the hammer, I got an extension that sticks out to the side to aid in cocking it.

Also, since the scope sits so high it's tough for the kids, no problem for an adult though.

The 223 might be great, but i wouldn't recommend a bigger caliber.I saw one at walmart and I like you liked the price of a single shot 270.I bought it,and man oh man,the recoil was horrible,I couldn't handle the kick of that thing,I didn't even put 20rnds through it and I sold it.I can't say what accuracy was with it,because I couldn't bear the recoil...

the .243 round is one i don't have a knowledge of, can someone explain the difference in the velocity and ballistics upon impact between .223 and .243? Thanks. I would love to be enlightened.

the short version... bigger bullet that flies faster n flatter :)

I will add that I bought and tried to get two of these to shoot well. I was not happy with either. I bought the Youth Superlight models in .223 and .243, these are the ones with the extra light barrels. I could not get better than a 4 inch group out of either one and the .243 was the worse of the two.

I read all the tips at http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/index.php about getting these to shoot better, but I just didn't have any luck. If you get one, avoid the Superlights.

I have a buddy that has a standard .22 Hornet that his a tack driver.

Wiskey,

Good post, instead of just bashing the product line in general you stated your problem, attempts to correct them and made a positive suggestion/statement for future buyers to go by.

At least it wasn't a recoil problem..................LOL
