there is a chance i might get a H&R 20 ga. single shot. thing is the barrel was cut down to 18" are the barrels screwed in or pined i would like to make a small game gun out of it. also will need a but stock for it. any idea what i can get one for ?

Yes, there is a breech plug to the H&R Side Kick and the Huntsman...I have owned both and still have the Huntsman... In fact the Side kick can not be converted to any other gun unless modified, but the Huntsman is along the lines of the TC single shots (multi barrel capable) and if you own one you can get rifle barrels and shot gun barrels for it but, inorder to do so you would have to send the stock and forearm to H&R to have the new barrels fitted to them...Anyone looking for a Huntsman? I know where you can get a good deal on one, just pm me

You could probably call H&R and they will probably explain to you how to send the forearm in to have a barrel replaced for a fee...they will fit the new barrel to the forearm to ensure proper fit up...
 
I believe the way they manufacture their guns is to fit every forearm and stock to the barrel it is shipped with and it is not recommended to swap barrels with out properly fitting them to each other...I do not know why they still do this when others (TC) manufacture their guns to bolt up any barrel they make for each model, probably has something to do with the reason H&R guns are usually much cheeper than the others. But, I will say that they do not shoot as if they were cheep. I have no complaints about their guns...

Well that statement was not to clear . The M/L version is a single shot to so no M/L pins or breech plugs needed to open up the action . The good H and R rifles do have a threaded breech plug that is true . But at one time there were breech plugs that were held in with just rubber O-Rings and they were a death trap. Those rifles are still out there too waiting to take your head off. IF there was a hang fire and the rifle was hinged open to see if the cap fired , then if the rifle fired at that time then the breech plug would come back and kill you or at the lease burn you with the hot gases from the open breech.
That is why the company went bankrupe back in the 1979-1980's period to not have to cover those lawsuits. If you have one of those old rubber 0-Ring models get it fixed by putting a threaded breech plugs in it.
