Well, I believe I have now gut shot a nice buck on my place. :( I pulled the trigger on him and I think he buckled, then ran kinda humped up looking down by me, so I fired another round and he bowed up and turned back moving in front of me. I chambered another round and as he passed an opening, CLICK! Misfire. By the time I ejected that round, slowly, I looked up and he was gone. I thought for sure he was laying there close bc I never saw him running off. Well, I can't find any blood, and I walked all over where I last saw him wo finding or even bumping him up. This season is like no other I've experienced...ever.

Oh yea. I looked pretty hard till dark tho...just have a bad feeling about it. I thought he would be there close the way he was struggling to run.

Seriously considering cutting my losses and hanging it up for the season. If I can't do any better than this why am I even out there?

I shot a buck last year that left zero blood trail - no hair - no nothing. I looked and looked. Sat back down and started mentally running through what I did wrong. Where did I hit him? Finally in desperation I looked one more time as I walked out of the woods. There he was about 50 yards from where I shot him dead as a rock. You hit your deer twice with a bigger rifle - you still may find him tomorrow once you sleep on it and get a fresh start. Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Just been a rough...really rough, season for me this year. Seems I can't get it right and keep running in the ditch.

I'm sure he's dead. I know some like core loct's but after my dad shooting a 10 and it not leaving a blood trail and one of us shot another deer that didn't leave a blood trail i changed to hornadys. We found both deer by just stumbling up on them. I'm sure he's dead and you'll find him tomorrow. Good luck.

at some time or another, if you shoot enough, you will come across circumstances where there is no blood trail whatever the projectile.

And this seems to be one of those cases stik. We looked all over out there this morning and didn't find a single hair. I've used CoreLokts forever, and honestly I've never even had to rely on a blood trail, they've usually fallen within sight, if not just dropped where they stood. I'm accepting that I made a bad shot here, way back in the gut. My lesson learned? Even tho I've been coaching myself to take the first good shot that presents itself, if you're late taking it when its there, you're liable to end up with a bad shot. Thanks for all pitched in on my thread with their insight and support. Just have to accept it for what it is, a mistake, as painful as it is. :(

Didn't find mine either. Found 2 beds with significant blood and the 3rd bed had very little. No blood after. Sick feeling
