Gut pile

What is opinion of hunting an area where there is a gut pile? Coyotes will probably take care of it but don't want them around either.

With my area only being 7.2 acres, I do it all the time. Yotes, vultures, and just about all criters, even squirrels, clean up piles within a few days.

Usually if I leave a pile in the morning it will be gone before the afternoon hunt.

the gutpile itself has zero effect on deer movements as long as you don't leave a ton of human scent in the area.

extra predators (coyotes, bobcats, etc) may alter their behavior for a day or so, however.

I have no reservations about leaving a carcass in an area that I am hunting the next day, but I prefer to do so to shoot coyotes off the carcass the following day.

I put a camera on a gut pile recently and the crows and buzzards ate the whole thing by 10am the next morning

Had to run the buzzards off from a flat top after a three kill three cutpile one morning and could have killed another that evening , will not bother the deer .

Friend of mine killed his biggest deer over 3 gut piles and it was a whopper.

Gut piles never last the day around my farm. Also I've seen deer come right by that spot the next day and pay no attention at all to it. i stopped worrying about it and gut them anywhere I want to now.

I did an experiment once... set a gut pile in front of a cam. The first buzzard landed 15 minutes after I left. The pile was gone in one hour.

Wow....that's interesting.....I've returned to gut pile location the next day and there was zero evidence of any gut pile other than the grass and weeds we're matted down flat....but no blood or anything....nothing goes to waste.

I did the same once when I forgot to place one of my older cams. I had everything come in and get some, what surprised me was the squirrel. The bobcat didn't make an appearance, this time, but they usually show up too.

Have seen them gone in less than 2 hours in Crossville area, lot of vultures in that area, overnight around knoxville area
