I plan to retire in a couple of years but still plan to work. I think it would cool to repair and refurbish guns. I looked on line for gunsmith schools and there are several out there. Has anybody use the online training for gunsmith? And do you think its possible a local shop would let me apprentice with them?

be wary of the crap online courses. with that said AGI has some good dvd courses, but they are expensive. montgomery community college in NC has a weekend schedule for their gunsmithing program, or did have.

the NRA has some short 1-2 week courses in gunsmithing and they are inexpensive at various colleges during the summer, i havent taken any of these.

unless you have had some machining coursework, or worked in the tool and die trade, it would be hard to get all that you need from video or online courses. BUT, you might find a gunsmith that is willing to take you in as a helper or apprentice.
