I'll add a BIG +1 to this. Although I have never been to either of their stores I have called both of them and they are total jerks.

if you went into on target and actually met them you would find they are cool people or you could try outpost armory on I24 they are good too

When I said either store I meant either of the Guns & Leather stores. I've never even heard of On Target until today. Outpost is great to window shop but they have nothing in there that I cannot buy for less money elsewhere. In some instances such as guns and optics they can be beat by a very large margin. Cool store though.

Re: Guns&leather gun shop

i agree with you it is a neat store but i can see where its overpriced. good point. but on taret is neat and decently priced you should check them out.

Re: Guns&leather gun shop

There isn't a gun store around that I really like anymore. They're either too expensive or the workers are typical gun store employees. I don't know if it's dealing with the customers or just the nature of the work, but you either get the best salesman/woman in the world or someone who should never, ever deal with the public.

I've never been to Guns & Leather. Just making a general statement.

I've had dealings with On Target. I'm glad you like them, but...no. To be fair it has been a while since I've been, but I wasn't all that thrilled.

they dont have a huge selection but some of the guys up there (not saying all) are really good to talk to and can help you out a lot

I can deal with the sales person being a jerkwad or what ever, because 95% of the time I already know what I want and if they have it,I'll buy it,no sales person needed. But the stores that seem to carry the stuff I'm want is so expensive I don't even bother.I just get online and have it shipped to a friends pawnshop and pay for the transfer or I if I "gotta have it now" I'll get in the car and drive to Kentucky and get it cheaper even with buying the gas.I just wish I could find a local shop with just "decent" prices.I've dealt On Target, and I'm of the same opinion of Trapper.

The gunsmith that is associated with G&L is top notch and a great guy. I have no complaints with the gun shop, except maybe this week when I had to keep saying "The Black Box" to the salesman who kept handing me the green Sierra bullets when I was asking for Nosler Ballistic Tips.

I will agree, the gunsmith is very nice. He has done several things for my buddy without even a small charge. I was in there the last week and looking for the leather guy, and he said it wasnt a surpise he wasnt there. He wanted to know what I needed done, and he told me there was no way he could do that with his equipment, and dont waste my gas driving back up there the next day to talk to the leather guy. And he gave me a few names who he thought could help me out. VERY nice guy indeed.
But the store guys are kinda rude

The Gunsmith at Guns and Leather, his name is Jeff.He use to be at Specialty Arms.Jeff has done alot of work for me.He is a very knowledgeable and friendly gunsmith in my opinion.

Never had a problem there, not every clerk know every thing about the busness so if one didn't know that you can get 180 grain 38 (357) I wouldn't put him down.

i had a guy there tell me the was no such thing as a 180 gn bullet for 357 mag

lol

Deer Assassin you know your 357 and know it well, but do you know what weights are available for the 303 British or the 50AE or 338 mag.Probably not.
Having been in the gun and sproting goods business a long time.I see it most everyday.Customers come in daily with parts to a gun or fishing reel and are amazed that i dont reconize the part much less have one. They know their equipment inside and out but know nothing about some other guns, reels or bows.
What i'm getting at is there is no one who knows everything about everything. Not knowing about a 180 grain bullet is understandable.
The onlt thing the salesman did that was wrong was his reply.
Should have said"i'm not aware of a 180 grain for your 357."

Good luck and hope you found your 180s.

Not knowing is one thing but to say there is no such thing is quite another. Saying there is no such thing implies that you know. Huge difference.

I like Guns & Leather. They have been nothing but nice to me. That being said, I think they are suffering from being too successful. With growth, bad customer service usually follows unfortunately. They have so many people in that store all the time & many of them probably are there solely to waste the employess time with nonsense stories, stupid questions, internet lore, and no intent whatsoever of buying anything. The prolem is when someone actually asks a valid question, which is probably pretty rare, it is usually met with indifference. Not excusing them, just explaining why that probably happened. Personally, I buy most stuff online or from individuals these days.

i agree with your comment 100 %

but his comment was they dont make a 180 for a 357

when i was just down stairs shooting my reloads 180 rem sjhp over a max charge of blue dot

and their is plenty of factory ammo online

i agree he should of said he wasnt aware

i am by no means a know it all if I dont know I will listen and learn

you are so right about knowing "you calibers" 270 I know 338 no clue

10mm4me is right...to much growth too fast. The Williams family are good folks and they have treated me fairly for over 10 years. I've spoken to Dennis about it, he informed me that they have too much volume.

They opened a second store in Hendersonville to take off some of the pressure off the Greenbrier store. Alot of the issues with crowds surround the handgun permit training and the droves of people flocking to get their permits, buying guns and ammo and the like. I think Dennis and Family have hired as much help as possible (albeit not experts) to service all of those folks taken care of and run the cash register.

I too have been treated rudely by one of the clerks. He was unknown to me, new, and I guess flustered. I guess he didn't know that I have purchased hundreds of duty weapons for my agency through Guns and Leather. I guess he didn't know my loyalty and affinity for the shop and the family that owns it. Next time I talk to Dennis, I'll mention the behavior.

If you know what you want, go and and get it. Don't show up on Saturday and Sunday and expect a high level of personal service. The place is packed, the part-time weekend clerks aren't professionals, the range wait is long, and the cash register line is horrific. Go during the weekday and your trip will be more pleasant.

Big Jim I am sure you know what you are talking about. However, a person does not have to be a pro to be courteous and respectful to customers. I have experienced neither courtesy nor respect from the clerks at Guns & Leather and I am by no means a gun novice with stupid questions which should not matter anyway.

Behind the gun counter,i too have been rude to customers.

Like the time i was rude to the guy who was looking for a Glock magazine. He pulled his gun out and took the mag out and then pointed it straight at my gut and ejected a round out of the chamber. He never relized what he did as i walked away from him.

Or the guy with his wife who took up over 30 minutes.Started at one end of the counter and 15 guns later made this statement right in front of me."Now i know what i want.I'll order it from Buds."

Oh yeah i have been rude to a few who interfear with a gun transaction by saying things to unknown people.Like.You dont want that one.Or this one is better. If your not a part of the transaction.STAY OUT!

Years in retail at any level will do it to you.Not saying being rude is right.Just sometimes its what you have to do.

Don't let anyone live rent free in your head! If you don't like something it is all good, stay cool, and be a duck and leg that water roll off your back. The way I dealt with this issue when I starting to going to my local store, and I got the whole rude thing at first too, was I kept going back until I found someone I liked to deal with. From that day forward I only dealt with this gentlemen. If he wasn't there I didn't buy. It didn't take long for the sales people to figure out I would buy if you treated me like a human being. Just be curtious and don't let them get under your skin. You will find someone in there you have something in common with and not only have someone who helps you with your purchases but will most likely make a friend.

I have been in customer service and sales for over 30 years. Not everyone is cut out to be able to deal with the public. It is the duty of the owner/manager of a business to weed out the ones who are unable to deal with people. If the same folks continue to be rude and turn customers away then they should be either trained or turned loose. If nothing is done by management then it is a direct reflection on the management.

Mr.Bro you would not be rude to say something to the person who pointed a loaded gun at you no matter what you said. Now the other two examples you pointed out well such is life. Either deal with it or find another line of work. Those things are going to happen and lowering yourself to their level by being rude is not the way to handle the situation. Especially in front of other customers. JMHO

i have to lean more towards meat hunters opinion on this one just because if, like stated in your second example, a guy your trying to sell a gun to is looking at a glock and another customer convinces him to buy a kimber, well that is a plus for you and the store. you sold a more expensive gun and the company made more money. i feel like in my experiences gun people tend to trust each other more than they trust a guy selling them something, but i think that could be said for anything being sold. one consumer is gonna trust another consumer more than they are going to trust the person selling it. they are going to think the person selling the product to them is just trying to 'get the sale'. i am speaking from a consumers POV. now if i would have been in your shoes when the guy pointed the gun at me i would have most likely told him to get out of the store and not come back till he learned some firearm safety.
