Where is a good and reliable place/site to find out the value of a rifle? Mom has a John Wayne American Ed. Winchester 1892 in .44, lever action. It is NIB. She heard about one being sold and wondered about the value of hers.
I check Gun Broker and I look for the ones that have actually sold. You need to join to be able to search auctions that have ended; but its free.
Taking a quick look at John Wayne 1892 in the auctions that ended there were four pages. Most were $1100 to $1500 and had no bids. The four pages were mostly just several guns that keep repeating without bids.
Of those, the only one that sold (other than a matched set) sold for $999.
Most of these are new in the box 100th anniversary editions in 44-40. So if that is what you have I would say its worth around a grand.
If you ever sell it, either gun broker or take it to the Louisville arms show, it is 2000 tanles of the finest guns you will ever see, there are several guys who buy comm. guns.
