Are they a decemt ml? Guy at work is wanting to sell me his dads but i dont know much about them thinking of buying it

If your talking about the Mdl. 700 M/L, I don't know what they are selling for but have heard that some people are looking for them to convert to smokeless powder.
I've got one and have had it for over 10 years, it is a great shooter and is very accurate.
Biggest problem with them is that they do require a lot to clean the right way. They had a problem with a lot of people not taking the bolt apart and cleaning the spring, etc. The spring would rust and the rifle of course would not fire. I make it a habit to completly take everything apart and clean with good old hot soapy water and give everything a coating of Rem oil. Worked for over ten years with only one "hang fire" which I corrected when I purchased a conversion kit that allows it to use 209 primers. Btw the hang-fire was the result of one of those foggy, drizzly days afield.
Mine is SS with a synthetic stock.

What does it take to convert one to smokeless? How much does it typically cost?
About the only thing they use from the original rifle is the action [receiver] everything else is new, bolt, barrel, etc. I have no idea how much it would cost. You could probably get a new Savage Smokeless,[or two] for a lot less.

It's expensive. Barrels alone run 4-500 bucks. Howa has some very sweet smokeless conversions though. Very accurate setups.

With all this conversion stuff going on it's pushed the price of the 700 ML up quite a bit. Especially if its stainless. $200 would be a fair price for a Blued model in good condition (no rust pitting). For a good Stainless model I'd say $250-275. They are getting hard to find.
