My safe is a "36 gun" safe. There is no way in the world you can fit "36 guns" in the safe unless they are all pistols. It has 36 slots for rifles, but there is not enough room for them.

I think the safe companies should actually put rifles in the safe to capacity and then say this safe will hold XX amount of rifles instead of just putting a number to the safe.

I need a bigger safe now and may be selling the one I have or just get another safe. What to do...what to do. Hmm.
 
Just get a new one and save the trouble of selling the old one. It wont be long before You have them both filled anyways. Funny how it seams to work out that way.
 
I don't have a safe but need one badly. How do you secure your safe to keep theives from carrying it out of the house? I have a buddy whose very nice home was burglarized twice and picked clean except for his safe. He had it weighted down with bags of lead shot...

Most come with mounting holes in the bottom to secure to the floor.

Many of the nicer safes are so heavy it would take a crew to move them even if they weren't secured. When I moved, it took 3 grown men and an oversize appliance dolly to move my safe... and the wheels on the dolly almost folded out at a 45 degree angle.

But if a crew of pros hits your house with unlimited time, they can steal just about anything... With a safe, you're banking on it being more than difficult to remove, and therefore the average house thief opts for the easy, quick stuff to grab and go.
 
Where in you house do you keep your safe? If it's that difficult to move, I can't imagine going up a couple of flights of stairs.

With a motorized dolly, they can take a safe up 15 flights of stairs. Better have a sturdy floor or it might end up in the basement though. I think my safe is 1250 lbs and they moved it off the truck, up the driveway and into the house in about all of 5 minutes.
 
I have one of the Stack on Gun Safes. Provides no protection other than theft and the kids. Have 4 bolts through the bottom and 2 going into 3/4 plywood that I anchored to the studs in a closet. Its going to take an effort to get it out of there.
 
I have one of the 14 gun Sentry safes. I can barely get 10 guns in it myself. I have already said that my next house I will have at least a 48 gun safe (room to grow :o)~ I know it is overkill now, but I can keep all my important papers in it as well. The 14 gun safe was heavy as heck trying to get it up one flight of steps with a dolly and my next door neighbor that is stout as an ox. Like someone said earlier, it is a deterrent and will stop most thieves, but if they have a lot of time, they can take anything they really want. I just better not catch them !
 
I have a champion safe that is 72x60x28, weighs 1475 lbs and has 51 slots for long guns. There is no way I could get 51 guns in there especially rifles with scopes. Maybe if they were all shotguns or rifles with no scopes, but still they would have to be perfectly placed and would probably get dinged up.I put mine in the garage on the concrete slab due to weight but left the 4x4's that came with the safe attached so that it wouldn't sit directly on the ground which could cause rust. I have an electric dehumidifier and one of the can absorbers that you can buy from cabela's inside the safe to help against moisture. I guess someone could tear the garage door off and get the safe with a pallet jack or forklift, but I'll take my chances.
 
You can throw those silicone packages you get from electronics, etc in the bottom to absorb any moisture. Get a few more, take the old ones out and replace the. I keep 4 or 5 in my safe. I have 10 rifles and shotguns in my 12 gun safe??? I can't get another one in there and close the door.
 
I've a Yukon Gold made by Browning. 72" 700 + lbs, and I think it's a 54 gun if I'm not mistaken, which I definitely could be. But anyway, so far so good. I also have a "golden rod" and a Browning moisture absorbing box in the bottom of it.

The accountant should be able to look it up in their manual. I have my taxes done at HR Block every year and I just brought them my receipt.
