I have had a little custom work done to a Model 70 .270. The last thing I am getting done is a coating on the rifle. I cant decide which coating is the best. From what I read it seems that Cerakote and teflon are the most widely used. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions.

Cerakote is the big name, my dad had a remington done and it's darn near indestructable if put on right(baked on).

I have a rifle that is duracoated, it's ok but nothing like Cerakote.

There are many new coatings that mimic Cerakote, but they are mostly expensive at least for me. I wish I could Cerakote all my rifles, but the price would really have to drop for that to come to fruition.

If you are doing it yourself I recommend Norrels Moly Resin. It is easy to apply but you do have to heat cure it.

The Cerakote is top notch also but not as forgiving as the Norrels. I would recommend having someone with experience do the Cerakote.

As far as durability, both are very good. I have rifles with both types of coatings on them.

I'm think I'm fixin' to duracoat my M77 that got barrel rust in storage....any body done it themselves? I think the worst part is going to be de-greasing and preparing the metal. I haven't worked out blasting it to prep yet, so may just emery-cloth it w/600 grit. Cerakote sounds pretty good too, but kinda squirrely about baking my barreled action?!

Cerakote has a version that you don't bake but it's not quite as abrasion resistant as the baked-on kind. You need some kind of paint gun or airbrush to apply it.
