grouse in the snow

going to try hunting grouse in the snow tomorow up at the foothills wma. Im quite excited. I used to hunt pheasants in the snow up north all the time, it was so much easier.
One set of tracks is all need! This is the one time I dont need a dog, and I dont haave to beat the brush, walk alot, cover miles, and look for tracks. Wish me luck!

I aint seen a grouse in forever, I wish ther numbers would increase, when I was a kid they were all over, you could nearly step on one before it took flite, scare the daylights outta ya.

Ther quite a few wher you live by chance ???

I know of an overgrown field where I've seen a flock of grouse...with my .177 air rifle I dont know how successful I'd be shooting some, as they sit low in the tall grass until you walk up on them. Gonna be at school tomorrow anyway...got a final in the morning.

Ive seen a few in the foothills, but not many. Never actually got one there, but i believe with the snow on the ground it really improves the odds.

flock of grouse? you sure it's not quail? grouse are generally solitary birds.

i've seen quite a few in ne morgan county.

I read about other states and they gauge the grouse population by ''flushes per hour''. Around here I measure with flushes per mile. But I get after them anyway.

well hunted for a few hours. No sign...no tracks no flushes. hit ridges,a creek bottom, couple young pine thickets and some thick laurel. Every ridge and trail had coyote tracks, sometimes in small packs of 2s and 3 s. I believe the foothills grouse are gone..
