Any advice on a brand? Best for the price seems to be the ameristep dog house... Also for putting it on a plot how close to the season is too close in your opinion?
 
I'm using a Rhino Rut & Strut.
They definitley saw it last year, the day I put it out. Mature doe was just a little too curious on MZ opening day, and came home in my truck. She just seemed fascinated with it tucked under a big cedar tree.
Moved it to a new spot in the woods on the edge of a field. None have even given it a second look since.
 
Primos or Ameristep. The hub style. Keep the windows closed or them does will bust you out. I put up a blind one afternoon and then hunted it. It was in the edge of a bean field with broom sage 30" high all around it and backed up to the woods. A doe walked out 200at yards away across the field from me and spotted the blind right off. I had been there sitting in it for an hour so i know she didnt watch me set it up. Had window screens all closed too. Would have shot her but i had a muzzleloader. Yhere is nothing I like more than shooting a big doe that busts me in the woods. Sometimes they are harder to kill than bucks. And i think they educate the younger deer.

I'd suggest the Ameristep Brickhouse. Little more room than a Dog house and a little heavier made. I'll set mine up 2 weeks before the season starts and brush it in good with cedar limbs.
