My grinder was $99 @ Northern. Had it for a few years w/ no problems. Same w/ the food saver.

I got lucky with our Food Saver. It's still going strong after about 7 years of inconsistent use. Sometimes it'll sit for months, and others, I'm trying to break it. I've been impressed with my Weston products so far, so I'll likely replace it with one when it finally gives up.

I have the grinder listed above, as well as one of their meat slicers. Weston is a good company to deal with.

Spend as much as you can afford. The more powerful the better as far as I am concerned. 3 to 4 deer a year can seriously wear on a meat grinder unless you spend hours cleaning the meat before grinding. I have destroyed cheap electric meat grinders in a matter of a few seasons putting them thru that kind of use. The #8 with the 575 watt motor is the minimum I would consider. If you got the extra $30, go with th 675 watt motor. I bought a 1 hp chinese knock off for $250 off of ebay about 15 years ago. I have chewed thru over 50 deer with it and its still going strong.

Here is my setup, very happy with these equipments and bought about 4yrs ago. Use for deer, pig, beef, turkey. No issues what so every with either one. Vac sealer is used for not only meats but vegetables, marinades, sliced deli meats. soups and sauces(I put these in a vac bag and freeze a little first, then vac seal.)

Also with any sealer: I always check whatever I seal the next day after putting it in the freezer to make sure the vacuum is still good. (LL from previous sealer not sealing properly).

I have a Cabela's that works great. The only problem is the barrel is so big that once you finish feeding meat into the grinder there's still about a pound of meat left in the barrel. With no more meat pushing through this makes it a pain if you're also using the grinder as a stuffer.

If your wife has a Kitchen Aid - I use the grinder attachment. Works well for 2-3 deer a year. I cube the meat and freeze it a little before grinding.

*Edit - Just saw the link he posted was about the Kitchen Aid mixer. so +1 on that.

Try stuffing bread in there after you are finished with the meat. It will push the meat out and the bread is easy to pick out.
