Green vs Red dot for hunting

Just curious if anyone is running a green dot sight on their shotguns and your opinions vs red.

Ive always run red on my shotguns but may get a green dot on a build im working on. I have a green dot on one of my pistols and I like it a lot but its not really apples to apples. Thats a 6moa dot vs 3 and I dont use my pistol in hunting situations much.

I know all the green vs red on what the "say" the pros and cons are but would love to hear real world use from someone thats been using one in the woods.
 
I have both, sometimes I think I like green better than others I think red! Lol , you can't go wrong either way.
 
I have a deer scope that does red or green on an AR. My kids used it during juvy when they were young. The preferred the red over the green. Said there was too much green in the woods and they could see the red better.

Same. For me, what is more important than color, is the brightness setting, to minimize star bursting. I like it just bright enough, but not glowing/star bursting.

My Burris red dot starburst on bright so I like the lower setting and like the red better because on a turkey gun the woods green up pretty fast.
 
I missed a bird couple years ago with a green bead, I couldn't tell what was bead and was briar leaves it all blended together, pistols i love green, hunting gun red only for me
 
I've ran a lot of Red Dot and Green Dot IN my barrel for hunting, but not ON my barrel. Sorry, every time I see these "____ Dot for X" threads they get my attention and I open them, carry on.
 
I've never used a green dot. But there are surely a lot of opinions on one over the other. But as we see here; there is no consensus.
 
I have a cheaper tru glo that has both. I don't use it a lot.
Seemed like I normally used red, I don't know why.
I may need to get it out and experiment.
I run a FF3 on my main gun, and it is red. I need to get the tru glo out and put it on green in low light. I don't think it would ever affect me as far as turkey hunting, but very early in the morning sometimes that lowest setting on the FF3 is still too bright. Maybe the green is different.
 
I run a red dot on my shotgun and a few other firearms but have a scope on my crossbow that can run red or green. I find myself running it on green the vast majority of the time when shooting or out hunting. Maybe it's something with my vision but I seem to pickup on a green dot better than a red dot. Even in the early archery season when everything is greened up, it just stands out better in my vision. Your mileage may vary.
 
Holosun with the green circle and a dot in the middle. I love it as far as dot goes. For turkey hunting I much prefer a gun that will shoot off the bead though. Ive killed birds my buddies with dots couldn't get on because of foliage or other reasons. Give me a gun that shoots true off a bead any day over a dot of either color

Have the same on my son's gun and run green when in the timber. If hunting a field on a sunny day and wrong setup I've switched over to red. Outside of that it's been a good one over the past 5 years

Seems really odd to me. I can get on one QUICKER with a dot because of the dot vs a bead where the barrel takes up the entire low half of your FOV.
 
The optics on my turkey guns have both red and green. I typically use the green more because its easy to lose a red dot on a red head. YMMV.

No chance for me. Trying to look through that little window to find the bird vs just bringing the bead to the bird and everything being open.

Agree. With that said, I have yet to find one that does shoot true after I install an aftermarket turkey choke and high velocity HTL and TSS turkey loads. Due to POI shift, it's been almost 20 years since I turkey hunted with a bead.

Freaking struggle is real. Its dang near impossible to find one shoot off the bead. And ive tried a bunch of em! Only guns I have that shoot the bead is my 28G benelli and its with a stock Mod choke and my old 20 BPS with a full barrel.

Im running a cheap tru glo site and I can shoot with both eyes open easier than I can shoot just a bead. I promise you I could shoot doves with this set up! No magnification, just a circle with a dot in the middle.

Ive shot both eyes open on ALL weapons my entire life, just always how I did it no matter if it was a rifle, shotgun, bow, or pistol. Became really beneficial when I got into trap and wing shooting. Can have a small drawback on red dots though Ive found, there are times the slight parallax in a red dot really throws me off with both eyes open. Its more apparent to me in bright sun and wide open longer range targets.

Ive tried to use a red dot on a gun dove hunting one day and thats a NO GO for me lol. Anything other than turkey hunting (when it comes to shotguns) ill take a bead all day every day.

Yea ill come watch. Youre gonna be sorely disappointed. Could you do it yes. Is it efficient no. All off the fact you need faster target acquisition which in turn proves the bead is more efficient over all. Its just you have time to aim at a turkey and know which direction hes coming from etc. have him jump up and take off flying through the trees with a dot and see how hard it is to get on him.
