Really thankful for two fantastic hunts on Thanksgiving day and the following morning. Went to a flat, long saddle where I've hunted before several times but never killed anything, public land near a lake in West Tn where my wife's folks live. Took two the first morning after picking a tree at first light, a yearling button buck (didn't know that till I dressed him but thankfully nothing protruding hair line) and a nice doe. Never quartered a deer in the field before and wanted to learn how, so carried the yearling over my shoulder  to where the doe was to quarter them. A couple of firsts for me as I've only been hunting about 4 years. 2 day in one day, and 2 shots on one deer. I tried to neck shoot the first one at about 35 yards - totally missed. No idea what I did cause I had a great shot, my new Mossberg .243 rifle sighted in and super accurate with hand loaded Remington brass - who knows. He jumped and was on red alert but didn't take off, and I was able to chamber another and went for the heart that time. :) Both that deer and the next one were a perfect heart shot (except I was hoping to save the heart, oops).

Next day couldn't resist going again cause I'd seen at least two others that I passed on. Even better day, was watching (and passing on) a tiny little yearling, when at least five deer showed up coming toward me at about 120 yards. Not sure if they were going to keep coming or veer into the thick stuff so picked the biggest and shot her at 100 yards - she piled up less than 20 yards from where I'd quartered the two the day before. Could have shot any one of the other 4, but passed and figured I'd wait for a buck since I have enough meat to feed the family (my absolute first priority with 3 growing kids). Had a spike come through half hour later, passed him too...overall two exciting hunts at a spot I haven't scouted at all this year and I'm as proud as if I'd shot a big buck. (But I wouldn't mind having a chance on that either, haha).
