Has anyone had any luck planting this in a food plot? I am planning trying it this yr to attract more turkeys to my place. I plan on broadcasting it to help control the weeds. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

I used it one year on some very wet, clay ground. It did surprising well for me as I broadcasted it too.

I've heard the key is to not plant It too thick. Pretty sure I hit it with a bag of nitrogen after it got up a foot or so tall.

I let it stand all winter and the song birds, doves and black birds hammered it.

A great food plot choice for any birds. As mentioned above it is population sensitive so do not over plant. For broadcast applications use 15-20 lbs. per acre. If you want you can cut the rate a little and add in proso, german foxtail, or browntop millet. Another suggestion is to add laredo or quailhaven soybeans and or egyptian wheat or other tall sorghum. Lots of options but it will stand alone and be great for both game and non-game birds.

I've planted a good amount of "PowerPlant" and Pennington's "Spring/Summer Deer Mix" both of which have sorghum in them. Of course the sorghum's role in these mixes is to give the vine plants something to cling to so they can grow upward rather than just growing flat on the ground. In my experience birds eat most of the sorghum seeds. In fact, one thing I like to do in one of those fields that is closest to the house is slip into it with my shotgun and shoot starlings and cow birds. They come into it in by the hundreds. Great shotgunning!
