Grafting was alot easier than I expected! I was expecting to get like 50% success being a first timer but 80% have taken. As long as I can get them through the summer I will have around 40 apple trees grafted from local trees that have required no spraying, havent had disease or insect problems, and have produced good crops for years. Im excited about this because your typical nursery apple tree will be susceptible to many diseases( 2 of mine have fireblight right now)
I obviously wont be in need of 40 apple trees since I have so many already so I will offer what I dont use to TNdeer landowners when they are ready next Spring or Fall. As long as you are planting these on your place for wildlife use (just not yard trees you know) the price will be free, , whenever you come through Fentress County just stop by and get you a few. I will also have around 15 that I am just growing from rootstock that will produce a small sour crabapple type apple. I just want to contribute something back to wildlife and I hope spreading my grafted trees throughout the woods of TN will be a little step toward that. Here are a few pics of how they are coming along, you can see the white graft union where I grafted the scion onto the rootstock. Just alittle something I enjoy doing and watching progress.
