I know absolutely nothing about GPS units but I want one and don't have a clue what to look for. I want to be able to scout new areas, far from roads (LBL, etc) and to be able to find my way back to any good spots I might find.

Maybe I'd use it for driving directions (MAYBE) but I doubt I would ever use it for anything else.

Can anyone give me any advice about what to look for? I don't have a lot of money to spend so I don't want a lot of unnecessary features, but i want to make sure I get a model that will work right for what I need.

If anyone can offer any advice i would be grateful.

Here are just a few suggestions/food for thought things to consider...........

Shop around either the net or local stores that have GPS units on hand, I prefer on line and read the user reviews closely, then pick one that has the features you are looking to use, a ton of extra unneeded junk just gets you more confused.

If you are in the mind set that you can just walk anywhere your legs will take you and think the GPS will get you back to your truck, don't be fooled..................they are only as good as the signal they are receiving and the batteries that power them.
I have two different GPS units and use them for scouting and logging new area's, but NEVER, NEVER rely completely on either one to get me back home.

Best of luck in your search

Get a Gaming 60cs or csx. You won't find a better GPS at the price you can get them at now. If you shop right you can get them for about $200. That's bout half from what it use to be because of the newer model that just came out. It stayed about $400-$500 for several years. Get it and you won't regret it. The antenna has the best reception you can get on a gps. It locks in fast and you can download detailed topos. I can't say enough about it. I used a rhino 110 for many years and upgrading makes me truely appreciate it.

Thanks for the help ya'll. Now I just gotta wait out the crazy Christmas shoppers if I don't buy online because no way I'll be shopping in town this weekend, lol.
