got the hunting 308 together pics

got the latest toy together finally. goal was an easy to carry, all around hunting rifle.
remington 700 .308 sps
factory barrel cut to 20" and crowned
bell & carlson medalist stock w/ flush cups on left side
egw hd 20 moa scope base
burris zee low rings
nikon monarch 3-12x42

tried to but just couldn't resist a paint job. the paint isn't for everybody but i like it and enjoy doing it.

like 5 shot groups but this is all i have so far. did this getting it zeroed in.

if you look back in my post history there's a how to on the paint (never mind the search doesn't go back that far). next one i do i'll try to put together a better one with pics. the scaled look is a $2.00 laundry bag you can find anywhere. lay it over after the base coat. i've also got to where i don't scuff the scope so that i can get the paint off if i ever want to change it up.

any certain primers or kind of paint you use, do you use a clear coat to finish?

No primers but it probably wouldn't hurt to use one. It's krylon camo ultra flat. Duracoat is great for a more durable perm finish.

Love the paint jobs. My brother did a similar paint job on a ML. I think he used a burlap bag or something to that effect.

I have painted the composite stock on my 243 and my 30-06.

Have not done the checkering but will definately look into that!

I just did my stocks though and no scope or metal.

for scopes go with citristrip. Citristrip is more gentle than most strippers.

for metal parts like actions and barrels brake cleaner works pretty darn good.

after the paint has dried for a few days it absorbs oil but this doen't seem to hurt it. i try not to get much oil on the paint.

many gun cleaning solvents will strip the paint. the internals of the gun are the only parts that should need cleaning with the solvents. after all it's krylon, if you mess it up just shake and spray.

the duracoat and cerakote finishes seem to hold up to the solvents i use.
