This gun was passed down to me and I passed it to my oldest boy. He has killed a truck load of deer with it. It had the rem pencil barrel and seen too many rounds through it. The accuracy had gone well downhill.
I brought it to Mark Penrod at Penrod Precision to have some upgrades. I had a Bartlein 1:9 barrel installed cut to 22" and threaded. Also had a trigger tech trigger installed and set at 2lb. Mark pillar bedded the stock, squared the action & bead blasted the barrel and then blued the barrel w/ satin finish. He did more to it but I honestly can't remember it all.
The trigger is incredibly crisp breaks amazing. I went with 1:9 instead of 1:8 as this will be a hunting gun and plan on working up loads with 90 accubonds.
when I dropped it 6 months ago I gave him the basics of what I wanted and asked him to build it like he would want it. He's passionate about old REM 700's and it was awesome to see the gleam in his eyes while he was explaining all that he did. I hope my boy passes this one down one day.
Can't wait to break it in for him and dial in some smokin loads. I had Mark work on another gun a year ago and it as well was top notch work.
