The new land I have to hunt has some decent potential. Next spring, I want to get at least one food plot in, maybe more. I haven't looked over the whole property yet but, there is an old home place that will make a great plot. It's all grown up in weeds, but otherwise open. Since I've never done the plot thing before, I really need a lot of suggestions. It is about an acre and a half in size, there is a pond on the other side of a small strip of some really thick brush. When do I spray it, bust it up, what to plant etc. Like I said I've never done this before and need all the help I can get. Thanks

Without seeing it it is hard to say.
This is only my opinion.. but spray you some herbacide on the most part of it. Make sure you leave your thickest brush around the edge at least a 30ft buffer. Wait 10-14 days & go in and broadcast your wheat or oats (just a suggestion) then bushhog the dead weeds and the grass will act like straw for your seed. This would be the quickest way and cheapest. Or you could disk after killing your weeds then sow your seed. Remember some weeds are good and cover is best as you may want to do a strip right down the middle of your weeds for a large edge / buffer around your food plot. Hope this may help.
