Odd weather opening weekend of muzzle. Let that one walk that I posted video of Saturday morning. Heard something thrashing in the thick stuff but it never appeared. Flash forward to Monday during the wind and snow. Purposely got to stand at 730 to try and time it with most deer movement and less chilly seat time. About 2 hours later, I had to stand up for a second. I notice a deer bedded way across the field in a sunny spot (for the 5 minutes of sun) and use the scope to see it's a buck but no idea the size. Figure with the wind blowing relentlessly up the valley from the deer to me, I could probably cut the distance to 100 yards undetected. Get down and start the approach. Right when I get to the treeline I see a doe bounding right at me. She turns left, hops a ditch then right in the woods. I peek out to see a buck now doing the same thing. I decide to jump the ditch and go in to see if I catch moment. The snow came again with 25mph gusts so I tuck behind a huge tree out of the wind. Was there 5 minutes and could not believe the wind. Never saw any movement. Suddenly I hear some crashing behind me. I turn to see a big body come down the little ridge, jump the opening and it hit the brakes maybe 15 yards behind me. I assume it caught my scent and that's why it stopped. But where it stopped was passed where the wind took my scent. There was no shot available at first then it took 5 steps and boom! He was also above me slightly me, I knew the shot was good as he took off around the ridge but crashed maybe 40 yards away.
Did not get a weight but he is one of the largest bodied we have killed. I think he was 3 1/2 and are going through trail pics to verify. His neck was huge and you could smell him from a ways off.
It was too cold for a Florida boy to get nice clean pics so my apologies for that part. Nice 9 with split brow on passenger side.
