Savage 110 FCP-HS Precision 338 Lapua,,3.5-10x50 VariX-III,on an EGW 20 MOA rail,in Burris rings with another 15 MOA taper in the inserts.

after taking everything apart and putting it back together with BLUE loctite,and let it cure for three days,I was getting anxious to have it zeroed at 100 with a mid range load with my starting off handloads.

bore sighted by eye off a rest at 100 yards ,I started with 88 grs H1000 and the 300 gr Scenar bullet in brand new Lapua cases,,and was 6 inches low and 3 inches right,,everything functioned really smooth and I was on the 1 inch red dot with the 3rd shot,,

the next three rounds I shot with no adjustments on the gun,but with 89 grs of H1000,Fed 215 primers,new Lapua cases,and the 300 gr Scenar bullet,,

I didn`t measure it but I am really tickled with the first three shot group at 100 yards and feel pretty good about finding a load that the Savage rifle will shoot.

I am still gonna do the 500 yard ladder test,,but right here about 3-4 grs below max is where I am hoping to be,,all I meant to do was get a solid 100 yard zero so I can adjust out to 500,,but that group right there has me excited

hopefully the ladder test will confirm that I am in the middle of a good vibration and not at the top or bottom edge of the node I am in,,I really need to be in the absolute center to be able to do what I want in changing weather conditions,,

What do you mean your tickled with it. You obviously missed the target 2 out of 3 shots. Great shooting man, that's stacking em up.
 
I will go measure the holes in the backer tomorrow,,the best measurement I can get off the target is .410 outside -outside,,take .339 of the Scenar from that and you have a C-T-C group of less than .100 inch,,actually .071..

I have shot several 5 shot groups at 100 in the zeros over the years,,but from a rifle this big and the recoil and muzzle blast,is insane,,with a 10X scope and no AO or side focus,,

I am seriously thinking about sending it to Leupold for the M1 knobs and the TMR reticle,,

in pressure situations I am not sure if I wouldnt be better off with the lower power scopes,,heck the White Feather used a straight 10X Unertle scope and was very good with it a LONG ways,,
 
I've noticed I get my best groups in the 12-15 power range with my .243 shooting 100-200yds. My Nightforce is 5.5-22 but you don't need to crank up the magnification till you start getting out there a ways.
