Sprayed a couple weeks ago. Went yesterday and disc up the fields the best I could. Used harrow drag to bust it up some and then flipped it to smooth it out. Planted half of it. Went back over it with the atv and drag and was worn out. Headed home. Got a good rain last night. So I went back today. Field was pretty damp but I managed to smooth it out. Got the seed out and was standing in the barn drinking water when the clouds opened up for about 5 min of hard rain. Just what I needed. Hoping for some sun now to get them going !!
 
No better feeling than finish getting the seed in the ground and having the rain roll in. Our last successful food plots I got the tractor back in the metal building, made a bourbon and coke and heard the thunder rolling in. Sat on the back porch with hunting pals while the rain was coming down and enjoyed the evening. Wouldn't trade that feeling for the world.

I love it when a plan comes together! Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often.
 
That's awesome. Best of luck to you. I had the same thing happen two years ago. Everything sprouted, it looked picture perfect. Then no rain for five weeks.

That was me last year. Nothing great well. Hit a drought. Plus so many acorns last year. It was tough hunting early going.

We had a near total failure as well, but working for a client on the Plateau, outside Dunlap, they had one of the biggest acorn crops they've ever seen last year. While I was working there in February, the red oak acorns were still piled up like drifts of snow. As for a red oak acorn crop, I've never seen anything like it.

Southwest va. Near KY boarder. Deer could bed down and feed just about anywhere they wanted.

luck changed during the rut. But now season was bad. Hopefully this year will be better. Last year was the first year my son didn't kill a buck and he's still mad at me because I killed 2 during the rut why he was in school lol. He said he's missing school this year during the rut
 
I am on a couple leases with my FIL up on the plateau north of Cookeville (Gainesboro). There were a ton of acorns, whites and reds. We saw more deer than we had ever seen and the rut activity was insane. My FIL said it was the best rut he'd witnessed in the 25 years he's been hunting it. We all killed great deer too. I'm glad to have those two variables (southern middle TN and the plateau) to hunt. I can bounce back and forth whichever is more favorable. It especially factors in when we have years like 2019 with a total deer die off and also the years there are NO acorns and the deer leave, literally migrate off the property.
 
Looks like fairly good chances of rain the next 8 days here. I'm thinking hard about putting my wheat / clover mixes in today. I know it's a little early but, I always feel like plots are a roll of the dice anyway.
 
We got a great rain here yesterday. Good chances in the forecast the next week or so. That being said I went ahead and planted my turnip / radish plot today. Trying the no till thing this year so hopefully it goes well.
 
Helped my FIL get 4 plots in today up on the plateau. White oaks are loaded, which is surprising to me after that late freeze. Not all of them but some of them. Didn't have my binoculars so I couldn't really get a good look. It was thundering in the background on the last 2 plots we were doing. Been a slow drizzle for 2.5 hours thus far right after planting. Lovin it!
 
Got 5 brassica ones planted last night while cool.

Worked four acres of dirt up today. Rain expected tomorrow evening. Got #25 an acre of clover seed and #125 of feed wheat. My gut tells me to wait 2 more weeks. But the weather seems right. Whatta you fellas think?

Wasn't bad at all. Started at 7:30 & back at camp around 1:30am. We should have went to bed then, instead of sitting on front porch until 4am solving the world's problems with IPA's...

Getting hard rain now! 🌧️ 😁
