I got my wyoming antelope tag in the mail yesterday. Boy I can't wait for october to get here. Anyone else get one?

I got a check from the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. And I do have a point for next year's draw, which will improve my odds big time.

I have not checked my mail in a week, but mine should be in there too.

Yes there will be three of us and two of us are buying one tag each. I more than likely will shoulder mount my buck and tan the doe hide. I keep getting different oppinions on the meat some say it's the best wild game they ever had. Some say a dog would'nt eat it! I have tried it as summer sausage and it was great. Has anyone here tried it and did you like it ?

I think antelope meat is the best wild game I have ever tasted. I had never eaten any until I shot one in 1996. I could have gotten a doe tag for an additional $50. I still kick myself for not buying the doe tad. The taste of antelope meat in awsome. I hope to go back in a year or two. :)

IMO it is the best venison around. Better than elk and better than whitetails. I've heard people say how terrible it was, but I'm of the opinion that some of these animals were hauled around in the back of trucks for hours before proper cooling was given. And most are killed during the warm weather of late August thru September into early October. And its still hot on the plains at those times.

That's about what I heard if you quarter it and put on ice ASAP it will be good. I've also heard not to touch the hide and then handle the meat . Do they stink that bad ?

A buck in the rut smells BAD! I have never had a whitetail smell that bad. However, the meet was superb. I've always carried mine to a butcher, who would skin the animal for $15 so touching the hide and then the meat has been a non factor.

We skin and cut up our deer at home. However, it is really just easier on antelope when you are 1,000 miles from home to pay someone who is set up to do it.

The ones we killed were skinned and quartered and in the cooler within 30 minutes after hitting the ground.

4onaside is right... it's some of the best tasting game out there. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's better than cow elk, but definetly better than everything else.

And the one I killed was an OLD feller last year... the steaks I cut were just too tough to eat. But the meat had the best flavor. I ended up grinding up the steaks into hamburger, and just made hamburger steak out of them. Even my wife loved them- and she will hardly eat any wild game.
