Finally caught up with this MS buck. Marlin .35 Rem. Rut has peaked here I believe.

Congratulations - that's a good one! Did you get it with the RCBS cast bullet? Seems that I recall you saying you'd bought that mold or maybe it was the new Lee?

No seems life got in the way of my bullet casting plans. Got the lead stocked up just need to get to it. One day.

This buck took a 200gr Hornady RN to the low shoulder. Tough bullet. Maybe too tough for my .35 Rem velocities. Penciled through without much expansion seems like. Believe it went right in front of heart severing aortic arch maybe vena cava. He ran 50 yds stopped looking around like nothing happened. Then after a moment ran off another 60 yds tail up. Thought I heard crash but not sure. Poor blood trail even with low wound exit. Think I'll be changing bullets. He can't get any deader but wasn't impressed.

I know how scarce time can get so understand perfectly about not getting to hunt with cast. That is surprising about the Hornady Round Nose. When I see a 35 caliber bullet with that nose shape I automatically associate it with the 35 Remington and not the faster 35's so assume it would work well at that velocity. Maybe the Sierra 200 Grain Round nose would work better.

congrats, that's a keeper!

rut is just kicking in strong here in south MS... starting to get some older on camera during daylight for the first time, as well as some bucks following does on camera. We still had bucks in bachelor groups between Christmas and New Years down here !!!!

Yes sir! Congratulations.... is that a battle scar on his brisket hard to tell on this phone?
