maybe the wind swirls a little weird on the property ? I have a property that no matter what wind they are forecasting it always swirls pretty good in there.
 
Sounds like my property. If anyone steps foot on it they know. If it doesnt get alot of hunting pressure they are probably very weary when something different is in there territory.
 
There is no telling what happened before you got there. Maybe a neighbors dog moved through there, or a coyote. It is possible too that something else had them on edge. Hunters are not the only thing a deer will blow at.
 
Poser being you do way more than most, i doubt you could do anymore. you know as well as anyone you will never get scent free, just minimize it. probably the wind doing funky things.
