Went to change lower unit oil and out came water then gear fluid. The drain plug gasket was a little worn out and the top gasket looked brand new.

Think I will have a boat tech friend look at it. He is $30 bucks an hour and has a bunch of experience. Better safe than sorry later.

have you actually run the motor and went through the gears? lower units can get costly QUICK.. hope you caught it before too late!

Yeah I caught it before taking it out. No metal in fluid when emptied. Friend is a mobile marine mechanic. Comes to your home for small issues like this.

1976 Evinrude 25hp. I am thinking the lower gasket as well considering the water was on the bottom of the fluid. The fill gasket was new and the bottom one looked like a black plastic that was chewed up. Still think I am going to have it looked at.

it might be bigj, but the water will always go to the lowest point no matter where its getting in from.
Exactly!

Well had the Tech out to my house today. He checked it and said it was the lower gasket. We put it in a barrel and let her rip! He said the thing runs awesome and that the only problem he could see is that it is in the driveway and not on the lake! Said go run the thing and have fun! $30 bucks and he checked it over real good!! Gotta love it!!

I am pumped!!
