I didn't get to hunt the opener, but hunted Sunday morning instead. I too got 4. Lost count of how many I saw, but only felt like dealing with enough for a couple meals.

I forgot how much fun small game hunting is. I didn't get up until it started getting light, had 3 cups of coffee, breakfast, then walked behind the house I was staying at. Killed 4 squirrels without walking 200 yards. Cleaned them, got a shower, packed up, and headed home in time to meet the wife for lunch. Good day!

Congrats BB, sounds like you had a fun hunt. I very seldom want to kill more than 4-5 on one hunt.
Been slow here at the house, went Saturday and Sunday evening saw a total of one squirrel lol. We had a major mast failure last year, not any hickory nuts and very few acorns, Pretty much wiped them out. Thankfully they are quite prolific so i'm sure they will bounce back for next season.

I very seldom want to kill more than 4-5 on one hunt.

It's just like drinking beer, 1 is not enough, but 6 is too many.

I've been wanting an o/u shotgun for a long time, but couldn't justify the prices. Especially when I'm pretty rough on guns when running up and down these mountains. Academy got a new shipment of their Yildiz brand 20 gauges this spring ($429), I went and picked through a bunch, found the one I liked best and bought it. It's been a nice gun so far, lightweight, and it has done a good job of killing what I point it at. I'm also getting ready to drill a hole in the stock and add a sling before this weekend. I couldn't imagine the looks on people's faces if I did that with a $2,000 gun.

I thought that looked like a yildiz. I have it's brother except mine is the sxs. I want the o/u to match too. I haven't had the first bit of trouble out of it either, and have used it on ducks, doves, squirrels, and a turkey a few years ago. At less than 6 lbs, they are a pleasure to tote through the woods for sure.

I haven't had the first bit of trouble out of it either, and have used it on ducks, doves, squirrels, and a turkey a few years ago. At less than 6 lbs, they are a pleasure to tote through the woods for sure.

I can add doves to the list of Yildiz kills myself. The more I shoot this gun, the more I like it. It weighs practically nothing. I can see myself bumming some grouse hunts off someone with a dog this winter.

And, yes, I'm sitting in the landscaping of a front yard, shooting doves as they come in to water and gravel at a pond. There are also more empty shells than in the picture. I've already cleaned some up.

Got out after the rain Sunday morning and was able to bag enough for a big skillet of fried squirrel. Found a tall hickory they were wearing out.
