Got my son a new muzzleloader. When we shot it today the first shot was 8 in to the left. Every shot after that was dead on and some even cut the same hole. I cleaned it after 6 shots and the first was 8 in to the left agian and after that they were back in the same dead on group. Should I foul this gun before hunting or fire a shot and clean the nipple real good ,its a sidelock, he wanted to be like dad. :grin:
 
Tell him to aim 8" to the right on the first shot.........LOL

Only kidding, some guns shot better after they are "tight" or had a few rounds fire down the tube.

I have a shotgun like that, needs about 10 slugs run down her to come back to zero after being cleaned.

It does seem odd, but the consistancy is there.

If you have done this same thing more that once with same results, I would clean it and fire one down the tube and reload the night before and let it rip.

You didn't say, scoped or iron sights?

Iron sights. Thanks for your reply That is what I was planning on doing. But coming from you I know its a smart thing to do now.
 
If he is comfortable shooting it, and knows this. Have him aim just a smiggin further to the right than dead center, still in the vitals but a little cushion just in case. He would still hit in the shoulder area if it did decide to go full left.

Hey man. Sorry I missed your call, was on a conference then off to church. Fire a fouling shot Friday afternoon and you will be good to go. I had to do that with the Huntsman I used last year. With my cheap Traditions Tracker I just clean and shoot. POI doesn't change at all.

I have mine sighted in with a dirty barrel and my 1st shot with a clean barrel is simular to what you're exsperiencing. I suppose I could have sighted it in with a clean barrel, but didn't want to have to clean the barrel or guessing where it's going to shoot if you would need a follow up shot.
