rsimms and other catfish specialists. What baits seem to produce better for catching channel catfish in reservoirs (not tailwaters) this time of year? Thanks

When I fished for cats a lot,we used either cut shad or skipjack this time of year. Most power plant discharges have them stacked up.Pretty easy to catch the shad with a throw net or the skipjack a roostertail. On the skipjack, gut it like a shad, cut its head off then filet the backbone out.

Yea, cut bait is the way to go. Skipjack or bluegill.

We're not so meticulous about the way we cut it. We just take a good-sized skipjack and slice it into 4 or 5 pieces. We are always prone to think big fish really like the heads, but in truth, who knows.
